Amanda Donaldson

Role: Counsellor

Qualifications: British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP)

My name is Amanda. I am a qualified therapeutic counsellor undertaking further academic study and working towards professional accreditation. I can offer face to face sessions, telephone or video sessions.

If you are feeling low, maybe not feeling quite yourself, or feel you are struggling and / or want to make changes in your life and not sure which way to turn, then please get in touch as I am here to listen and help you.

My practice is holistic, working in the here and now. My main way of working is known as person-centred counselling. This means providing a confidential space for you to talk about anything you wish to bring to any sessions, explore your feelings without being judged and have an empathic listener. By coming to therapy, it’s your personal journey and I am there to walk alongside you to help you gain a deeper understanding of yourself, your issues and explore any changes you may wish to make.

There is no agenda, so as the client you will lead the sessions as we focus on whatever issues you want to talk about, which can vary from session to session. Some clients find it helpful to have a goal(s) and these may change as sessions progress and that is fine. As the client, it is your choice on how you wish to utilise your time in therapy. Some clients like working creatively and if this interests you, I can offer this.

Like many counsellors, I can work with a wide range of issues and here are some areas I have undertaken additional training in: working with grief, bereavement, loss and suicide; fertility issues, miscarriage and baby loss; working with carers and clients diagnosed with terminal illnesses including cancer; working with clients with and / or in recovery from substance and alcohol misuse; plus relationship issues.

My personal interests are varied. For health I practice yoga, cycle, swim, walk and enjoy engaging in nature whether it is gardening or hiking. I enjoy reading, theatre and watching movies. I do and have volunteered for several organisations including my local theatre, an independent cinema, a hospice, and various local and national charities.
